Box of Danger

(I'm setting this as a Global post instead of just in the "Suggestions/Complaints" section so everyone can see it. In my opinion it affects everyone who frequents the site, so I'd like it to be as easy as possible to see.)

Here's the deal: I really want this site to take off. Like, I absolutely love messing with the site and making stuff. It's the best. I've put off playing video games I want to play and watching movies I want to watch to mess with something I doubt anyone will ever use (it's a wiki thing built into the site, having pages for anything related to us written from our point of view. Do not expect these wikis to be entirely factual, by the way). I have a pocket notepad and pen with me at all times to write down ideas that I come up with while I'm at work/away from my computer. I'm fairly certain I'm going to break down and buy a $150 green-screen setup with lights to start making more kinds of silly videos. Seriously, I love this website, and I want it to be used to its fullest potential. I want YOU guys to want to come here and do stuff.

So what do you want? What's something we could put on the site (videos, podcasts, whatever) that would make you eager to come back every day or tell your friends about? Do you want us capturing video game footage and making wisecracks over it? Do you want us writing more articles about things we're doing? Do you want a Box of Danger trivia game? Just give us some suggestions to tinker around with and see if we can make them happen.

For some insight, here are some ideas I've been bouncing around for the last couple days (Expect a lot of what-if scenarios) :

Live Action Videos - I got a pretty nice camera for Christmas. Nothing professional grade, but certainly serviceable. I've thought about us doing sketches, maybe making a sitcom-y series, the aforementioned green screen, or recording us playing Wii or Kinect games (obviously with simultaneous video game footage a la Giant Bomb's Kinect/Wii stuff). Would you want to see any of these? Or does none of this sound interesting/entertaining at all?

Video Game Stuff - On the video game footage thing, what if, say, Greg and I tried to co-op Dark Souls and recorded our adventure with our real-time commentary? What if we played games we consider ourselves good at, and tried to give tips or something for them? What if we tried to see how far we could get into a game in, like, a half hour? What if we did that with games that only one of us had played before, and he had to coach someone else as far as he could in a half hour? Idunno - now that we have capture equipment and, most importantly, a computer that can do it well, we've got plenty of options.

Comics - We're already planning on commissioning Joel's sister to draw cartoony versions of us to plaster all over the site. What if we wrote little three-panel web comics or something for us to commission her to draw? What if each of us made up silly/useless superpowers and commissioned her to draw a "super hero" web comic starring us?

Live Streaming Stuff - If we set up a live-stream thing on a site like justin.tv or something, what would you want us to do on it? Live podcast? Maybe sit in on a scripting session for a PTAS episode or something? Maybe we play some video games or something?

And that's just a couple ideas I had. Thoughts on these, or something else you'd like to see us do? Go for it - I want to hear from you guys. If it sounds like something fun and possible to do, we might end up doing it.

well i do enjoy daftcraft so i think the boxofdanger-rangers sould be entertainment, video wise- NO BLOGS. but i do remember on the dangercast, grant and Greg discussed the rapist and saten is a bad room mate.in my opinion you should do sketches to appeal to a wider audience but do a sitcomish series for the regular members.
video games wise? CONTINUE YOUR RPG SERIES!!! IT WAS GREAT. POST THE RESULTS OF RPG MEET YOUR MAKER, THIS IS THE 2nd OF 3 CONTESTS THAT NEVER ENDED WITH A RESULT!!! cmon guys give us a reason to enter.

A fair point, sprite, we've been incredibly lax on getting prizes out to winners/announcing said winners. Next podcast we'll give retroactive prizes for sure.

I really like the live action video idea and the live stream idea.
Remember a really long time ago when someone had the Butterfree game? A flash game like that could be cool. My idiot brain juices aren't flowing right now so when I get more ideas I'll post.
I really like that you guys want to expand this stuff this much. You should get your name out there! Get some merch! You guys love doing this site do you should try to make some zenny. Remember smosh? Your opinion of them aside, they are set for at least the next few years from the amount of merch they sell and they got a couple sponsors. You can do that.

Hm... Would you guys be interested in watching/hearing match videos of various games? Guilty Gear, Smash, MvC, etc? I've never like Let's Plays, but I do like an entertaining match video, and since we don't mega-suck at these games, we could be able to do that.

Hm... how much does a capture card go for these days... I actually might have something that can do it anyway, though.

I think the video game stuff would interest ME most. you guys playing Dark Souls, Saints Row, smash, whatever that game greg likes, tomba? that'd be sweet. Also, livestreaming a scripting session could potentially be amazing.

Sitcommy sketches could work if you guys actually stick with it and continue updating.

I like all of your suggestions in th OP, Wuggs. If you have the means to do those nice things, then go ahead.
I never have seen gameplay videos as one of your interests, but the interesting and funny dialogue of a dangercast behind exciting gameplay sounds promising.
Also, videos and skits of youselves would be great. Trouble is, you would have to surpass the level of quality you have already set by your highly esteemed and renowned PTAS. In other words, people, much like myself, would expect to see more than a VLog every now and then or a strangely written gag video that is ultimately just the opitomy of everyone on YouTube with a camcorder (see Cult of the Walrus if you don't know what I mean).
The comic/cartoon thing... I like where that COULD go, but I see it becoming similar to Little Kurriboh's OVA stuff... Yikes. I could be seeing the wrong side of it, though. If it were a daily web comic with cartoon versions of the BoD crew, that could go somewhere. I think half the fun would be seeing everyone's cartoon. I also feel like they would be easy to produce, and you could even release them one at a time, like an actual web comic.
If all of these changes did take place, I suggest a sturdier front page. A news feed of dangercasts and pointless info links a welcoming front page does not make. No offense, but if we kept that format, my routine of habitually going straight for the forums link. Web design isn't my thing, but you guys could make me want to stick around more.
Like I said before, they're your ideas. If you [guys] like them, then there's a good chance we will; we're your fans for a reason. I really loved reading that you still love being active to the point where you would sacrifice time for us. I personally like suggesting things, but surprises that you throw at us are cool, as long as you don't do anything stupid.

I have two different types of capture card. One is a card for the computer that can do HD. Another that connects to the computer through USB.

I have so many ideas for music video remakes. I have also discovered a knack for rewriting lyrics. I really want to make these. Also, grant, post your beowulf video. Sorry for the mugs in this post. I'm using an iPad.

Edit: they are easy to make. I made several in 1 marathon night with the crappy new Mac editor even. I think my friend uploaded it to YouTube. I'll text her tomorrow to find it and link.

Also, we could make sequels/prequels nobody wants to see. I stole this idea from a standup routine but I like it. His prequel to "psycho" is "that's a really weird kid"

Edit 2: not that I'm part of the bod crew... But somehow James is and I've been on more panels than he has in the last year.

Edit 3: let's get Eddie drunk and talk him into doing stupid stuff. Not necessarily a site suggestion but it sounds fun. I guess we could tape it.

We had a similar idea of recording Eddie explain the plot to really terrible movies.

Yeah but it is easy-to-do original content and for the many on here who can't come but would like the chance to see one of your panels it gives them an opportunity.

I see it kind of like a special video version of a Dangercast. Nothing special but just a glimpse into the lives of the BoD and who you are.

But it's just an idea. Maybe no one really cares. I probably wouldn't watch it. But I don't listen to the Dangercast either. I was just trying to throw some ideas out there since Grant asked instead of being a Trollasaurus Rex like I usually am.

Well, you could try to pull a TGWTG route and try to gather content that comes from us that isn't abridged related. I personally would love to see Juukuchi's UTCS actually get some much needed recognition for a change.

This panel was different, because I ripped my pants while being considerate for fans. Apparently, khakis that are 4 or 5 years old don't stand well to being used for army crawling...

Hmm... I don't know if people would find the Dangercasts nearly as enjoyable with our ugly mugs doing all the talking at them. Do you mean just record us doing the Dangercasts, or maybe just more videos of us in general?

For instance - my dad is helping Roooster build an arcade stick out of aluminum. I considered chronicling the whole shebang documentary-style today, but opted not to - deciding that, ultimately, other than Joel and I making goofy comments to each other, no one would glean any enjoyment out of it. Is that the kind of stuff you mean (us recording something that's just happening)?


I keep tussling with the idea of the series, but never get enough inspiration to actually make it. I've got a couple jokes lying around, so I might do my preferred method of a couple one-off videos, rather than an actual series.
