Aminorphs Arrives!

Author: Master WGS | Filed under: Abridging

Hey, kids! Remember that zany book series by K.A. Applegate in the nineties about a group of kids who could morph into animals? Remember that television adaptation that Nickelodeon dared to show?

You’re welcome.

Be sure to discuss it either in the video’s comment section or here in the forums. And yes, we do intend to continue this little adventure. This will also be featured on the iTunes feed, as are the rest of our cutting-edge comedic endeavors.

Many thanks for the support, and yes, Pokemon Episode 18 is on its way… Just a little slower than we’d like.

Episode 17 Up! Ohayocon Success! New Series!

Author: Master WGS | Filed under: Abridging, Conventions, News

Boy howdy, do I have quite a bit of updates for you folks! Let’s get things started, shall we?

First and foremost, the new Pokemon The Abridged Series episode is up on Youtube and iTunes!

Be sure to discuss it in the video comments, or in the Talkback Thread in the forums!

We also recently went to Ohayocon, and hosted a 2 hour panel! It was a terrific success, featuring special guest appearances from Usagimaru, LordMoonstone, and the one-and-only Kroooooooooooooze! Shirts, video games, and manga were given out as prizes during some games, we showed some videos, and even received some awesome fan-made gifts. (Pics to come!) Xerostyle has the footage for the panel, and should have it available for internet viewing soon.

While at the con, we also announced/showed a new series some of the gang will be working on. Hokuto No Ken Abridged (Some of you may also know the series as Fist of the North Star)! The episode has been uploaded to Youtube, as well as iTunes. It has its own channel, so be sure to subscribe there, too!

Also, be on the lookout for our original PTAS account (PokemonAbridgedFTW) to be returning to its usual status. Our buddy 1KidsEntertainment seems to be a wizard at getting Youtube accounts back (See TeamFourStar), and according to his predictions, ours is on the way!

Some more great things are on their way from your favorite perilous cube, so be sure to keep yourself around here for more updates and hilarity.

Ohayocon 2010 Update

Author: ModernTenshi04 | Filed under: Abridging, Conventions, News, Panels

The details on our panel have been made official.

Our panel is on the Saturday of the con, January 30th, from 6PM to 8PM in rooms Grant and Harding.

All of this will be made available on the official convention schedule, which will be available at the convention itself, and hopefully on-line beforehand.

We’re all excited here at Box of Danger.  We’ve got lots of fun planned, along with 4 episodes to show, and 2 of them BRAND NEW:  the latest episode of Pokemon Abridged, and the other is a one-shot written by Dark Bomber, and edited by Xerostyle.  We’ll also be showing our Hellsing parody, as well as a classic episode of Pokemon Abridged.  This panel is the first time anyone will see the new PTAS episode, as well as Bomber’s one-shot (well, besides the BoD crew).  The episodes will be made available via YouTube, and the PTAS episode via iTunes, right after the convention.

So if you’re looking for something to do the last weekend of January, something to quell those wintertime blues, something to gird your loins with excitement and fun, look no further than Ohayocon 2010.  Saturday pass is $30, full weekend pass is $40.  Registration is now at-the-door only.

See you there!

Ohayocon 2010

Author: ModernTenshi04 | Filed under: Conventions, Panels

Well kids, looks like we’ve managed to score a panel at Ohayocon 2010, which goes down January 29-31. This was the first convention for pretty much every founding member of Box of Danger, myself back in 2005, the rest of the crew the 2009 con, so it’s great to be going back. SamuraiKH2 did an abridging panel last year, and invited us to be on it as guests when he learned we would be attending.

The day and time our panel will be going down is currently unknown, because I submitted our panel request to the programming director himself this past Monday morning, and he only just got back to me this morning. Apparently he’s a fan of parodies and has been doing fan dubbing/parodies for nearly 20 years himself, so he was excited about our submission and agreed to add us to the schedule. I’ve requested the panel be either Friday or Saturday, preferably in the late afternoon or early evening. Given the content of some of our stuff, and the general demeanor of our crew during past panels (read: my mouth), I’ve suggested that the panel be listed as a 13+, though that “rating” is merely a warning, and isn’t enforced like the 18+ panels are. Basically this lets us cut loose and have some fun.

There’s a good possibility this panel could be a TWO HOUR PANEL. We’re planning on using a good chunk of the time to have audience members come up to record dialog for some clips we’ll have prepared, to demonstrate the process we go through in creating the various shows we have. Who knows? Maybe your recorded dialog will end up in an episode!

He said he’ll try to get back to me either later today or tomorrow, but it could also be until next month as to when we’ll have solid details (sometimes these things don’t get ironed out until a few weeks before the convention).

Either way, get over to Ohaycon’s website and pre-register for the convention. This will be my fourth time at Ohayocon, and I have to say, for a con that’s usually only marketed in the northwest, it’s a damn good convention, one I look forward to every year. Pre-reg closes after the end of the month, and is $40 for the whole weekend.

Stay tuned to our homepage and forums for further updates.

Now for something completely different

Author: ModernTenshi04 | Filed under: Abridging

So over the weekend, Xero, WGS and myself were all in Xero’s basement hanging out, trying to figure out how we want to do things for Ohayocon in January, when we all got really bored.  Xero, being the clever bastard he is, told us to follow him to his room, that we were going to work on a random project.  After watching countless, awful, abridged series, and videos highlighting the fact that Johnny Young Bosch isn’t a voice actor, he decides we’re going to abridge the first episode of Hellsing: Ultimate.

With no script, no practice, while watching the episode on his TV with no audio, with all three of us recording our lines simultaneously on three different computers.  Xero literally just started assigning roles without any prior thought process.

The end result of this endeavor can be seen here.

Despite literally doing this off the cuff, and how terrible it truely is, I honestly must admit that it’s pretty hilarious, probably one of the funniest things we’ve done.

The crux of this video is simple: we made this as an example of what NOT to do should you decide to abridge an anime, or any show really.  All too often we’ll see series that literally feel exactly like this, when if the creators would have taken some time to premeditate, to write a script, to cast the roles, to mix in music and sound effects, to make an effort, the whole thing would possibly turn out 10 times better than it already shouldn’t be.

Episode 15 iTunes Update

Author: Master WGS | Filed under: News

Revver (the site I use for iTunes) is being very problematic about uploading the episode, so it probably won’t be happening any time soon. I’m very sorry for those who often use iTunes to view the episodes, but it just doesn’t seem to be working.
